Happy Birthday – Allison Bradford (Jan. 5), Betty Kunstmann (Jan. 8 ), Marilyn Newman (Jan.  11)

Why are we still singing Christmas hymns?  In our Christian tradition, the season of Christmas lasts for twelve days.  During this time, we marvel that God would come to dwell as one of us. And so, on this second and last Sunday of the Christmas season, we continue to celebrate the miracle of Jesus’ birth.

The Feast of the Epiphany, which marks the close of the Christmas season, reminds us that in response to this miracle of the incarnation, we are to go spread God’s light in the world.  Please plan to attend the Epiphany service tomorrow night at 6PM.

Bible Study resumes—A great way to begin the new year is to decide to attend the midweek Bible study on Wednesday at 10AM each week.  During this weekly study, we take an in-depth look at the upcoming scriptures for Sunday.

Vestry nominations—Our congregational meeting this year will take place on Sunday, January 19th.  At this time we will elect two new Vestry members.  Johnny Davis and Roger Key have both offered to stand for election.  Additional nominations can be made by calling a member of the nominating committee, Laura Carey ((804) 742-5022, or  Fred Pannell (804) 742-5302.  Please make sure the person you would like to nominate is willing to run before you nominate that person.

Second Sunday after Christmas

January 5, 2014

“Now after the wise men had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him." Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod.” – Matthew 2:13-15
