Catherine is on vacation this Sunday.  The Rev. Charles Mumbo from Kenya is our preacher today.   The Rev. Mumbo has been the pastor of Ruaraka Baptist Church in Nairobi, Kenya for the past seven years.   Over  700 people attend the three services that the church holds each Sunday.  Pastor Mumbo says that the Holy Spirit is at work in the church, and his main role is to get out of the way of the Spirit.  Everything that the church does is built on the foundation of prayer.  Pastor Mumbo explains that the four pillars that support the church are worship, discipleship, fellowship, and outreach.  Many people in the congregation are responsible for various activities in each of these areas, and the church also has many cell groups, which enable people to develop close relationships even though they belong to a large church.  The church also runs a primary school for about four hundred students.

Their website is www.ruarakabaptist.org. Pastor Mumbo and his wife Judy have three children, Alemu, Kinda, and Kaylah.

Pharisee d Tax Collector" -Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld
 (1794-1872)

"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector… But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, `God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted." – Luke 18:10,13-14
