Village Harvest Food Distribution, May 16, 2018

The food distribution was lower than other months. We served 112 people compared to 153 in April. The rainy weather which continued for most of the week may have had an effect. For the first 5 months in 2018, we have served 501 people compared to 569 in 2017 and 452 for the comparable period in 2016. We  are thus down about 12% so far in 2018 from 2017.

This month we provided chicken, mini hotdogs, tuna, red potatoes, sweet potatoes, crackers, blackberries, cucumbers and watermelons. The distribution included dishwashing liquid which we asked parishioners to give this month.

We also prayed with those who wanted prayer and included prayers in each person’s bag.

Finally, we provided handouts about Fishing Day in Port Royal on June 9. There will be lessons on fishing as well, lessons on fish biology, how to tie knots, basic water safety rules and laws of catch and release. The day will begin at 9am with a fishing clinic after which the kids will put their new skills to the test at the pond or river from 10am to 1pm.
