The warning from the Bishop’s secretary, Amy Williams was ominous. "The Bishop doesn’t do arts and crafts."
Much to our delight he agreed to paint an "H" on our a renovated outside sign as a sign that the Bishop is the chief priest and pastor.
Our original sign was put up in 1936 on the centennial of St. Peter’s Consecration on the front wall of the church. Over the years, it had become worn and faded.
After they restored the altarpiece, Richmond Conservation Studio produced a mylar version of the sign so that it could be traced over the original style of the letters.
Mike Newman, an artist in our congregation, along with Catherine began the process on Sat. June 24 in preparation for the Bishop using a yellow paint.
Check out the pictures above, our Bishop as Rembrandt. We have learned that the Bishop didn’t like church and skipped out until he was 14 and received a sign in changing classes that he was to be a priest. Maybe arts and crafts are another calling.
We found the Bishop had a steady hand and did a great job on Sunday. Thank you, Bishop!
