Snow changes everything. What is familiar is missing, replaced by a new finish.  As poet Billy Collins has written, we have been through  a "revolution of snow" with a "vanished landscape" which is in the first stanza of his poem "Snow Day": 

"Today we woke up to a revolution of snow,  
its white flag waving over everything,
the landscape vanished,
not a single mouse to punctuate the blankness,
and beyond these windows"
