Small Groups Thrive, April 10, 2011

St. Peter’s has a plethora of small groups which are an "in" topic for churches these days. It’s nothing new here.

Cookbook groupSome function for a particular task. The cookbook committee is readying a cookbook for St. Peter’s in May. They have meeting setting the particulars of the publication including cost, collecting receipes and deciding on pictures.  Betty Kuntsman, Cindy Fields, Vivian McDonald and Barbara Wisdom are hard at work on this project.

175 invitation The 175th Anniversary committee has planned a festive May 15, 2011 as seen in their invitation. Thanks to Cookie Davis and Nancy Long for their perseverance.

Lenten BookgroupNot all are social. We have a book group that has been meeting in Lent. They have been reading Peter: Fisherman and Shepherd of the Church by Stephen J. Binz.

village dinner 2011-04-07Others function beyond a single task or season. This includes the Village Dinners pictured here in April which included Barbara Wisdom, Betty Kuntsmann, Cindy Fields, and Eunice Key. Their monthly meals are varied and delicious and help to feed the community. Some are traditional organizations such as the ECW which is one of our chief outreach sources.

There are seasonal activities, such as the Fellowship dinners which are held at various parishioner homes. There are groups that handle the Christmas activities, such as Nancy Long’s work with Samaritan’s purse

Altar guildWe shouldn’t leave out the groups that serve weekly – readers, LEMS, acolytes and ushers. The altar guild sets up the Eucharist which involves changes colors per season and cleans up at the end. Thanks to Marian Mahoney and Crystal Pannell for their work in this area.

All in all the number of the groups have been expanding this year. There is new nightime ECW group which met in March and a proposed ECM (Episopal Church for Men which will be explored in May. Come join in or start your own group.
