We were fortunate to have two young voices enrich our service today and an update on a third from last week. We had 45 in attendance. Bulletin is here and the readings here.
Our preacher was LeeAnna Feeser who was baptized at St. Peter’s and now a senior at Longwood. She is completing her student teaching in middle school and is also part of the Young Priest Initiative in the Diocese of Va. She hopes to go to seminary next fall.
LeeAnna preached on Matthew 20:1-16, the parable of the workers in the vineyard, where the workers were paid "the usual wage" no matter many hours they worked during the day for the Landlord (God). LeeAnna related it back to those boys first in line for milk in her seventh grade class. It is perhaps less fair that the later workers were paid the same wages as the earlier ones but the parable is about the Landlord’s unlimited generosity to all and our unfortunate tendency to be jealous over that fact. God provides grace, love and promise to those left out or unloved. We usually get more than we deserve in any case.
Laurel Ameen spoke of a new outreach opportunity to provide Bible study to inmates at the Peumansend creek regional jail. Volunteers would have one training session and have to undergo a background check. If interested, please give her a call at 540-809-2375 or email lamee2cl@gmail.com
Last week Kimberly Fisher told the church of a project for selling doll clothes they have made to benefit Japan after the earthquake. Catherine reported they had made serveral hundred dollars in the project.
