Aug. 28, 2011 – A Week Not to Forget but one we would like to..

This is not the week we intended – a second Community Dinner on Sat. Aug 27th followed on Sunday by a gathering of 3 Episcopal Churches at Lamb’s Creek Church in King George for a 1662 Eucharist OR 10am Morning Prayer at St. Peter’s. Instead we received an earthquake on Tuesday, storms on Thursday and Hurricane Irene on Sat. All events cancelled or postponed.

Crack in gallery

This slide show reveals the conditions around St. Peter’s this morning. The building inspection revealed some cracks in the stucco above the door and above some of the windows and inside a more troubling crack on the graveyard side at the edge of the gallery. There is a crack above the door inside the gallery.  Nothing felt unstable. An engineering firm will be coming to St. Peter’s on Monday to give us an evaluation on these details.

Above all, we are thankful for our blessings as a Church and the work of parishioners (Johnny, Cookie, Terri and Elizabeth who were here this morning with Catherine).

While the slideshow shows the cracks, I also wanted to show the beauty of the morning sun at 8:30am striking the windows and the pews. Here comes the Sun!

Next weekend we expect to have the Community Dinner on Sat., the first Christian Ed of the new year on Sunday, Rite II Eucharist, Sunday coffee hour and Cookie’s pool party. Come help us kick off the new program year!
