St. Peter’s in the Port Royal July 4, 2012 celebration

St. Peter’s participated in several ways during the 4th of July celebration in Port Royal from providing food, music and history.  In addition, we were able to distribute new historical brochure on display. Here is a slideshow of July 4 in Port Royal.

Hats off to the ECW which  put on a fine lunchon of hot dogs, chicken on a stick, bratworst, Italian sausage, baked beans, watermelon and cupcakes. The ECW also sold their cookbook from last year. They were busy earlier in the week gathering supplies, tables, chairs. A tremendous amount of work but they made $600.

Marilyn Newman

Marilyn Newman played the harp from 11am on in the Church and was enthusiastically received. We also had a slideshow, "the beauty of St. Peter’s" running continuously during the day, featuring church views visitors would not  normally see.

Thom Guthrie came in a 1pm to play a concert of patriotic music. Ben Hicks provided a historical lecture on St. Peter’s around 4 themes of small churches. Nancy Long brought out old hymn books and prayer books. Finally there was a hymn sing with all.

Numbers are difficult to pinpoint since people used the church for "renewal" from the heat and came and went. We raised money for both the earthquake and upcoming mission trip (over $60) and encouraged several to "try us out."

Numerous parishioners played a role in the main show. Mike Newman as he had in the past provided a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence reading. John Gillian from the Caroline Militia presented the document to him. Nancy and Mike both led the crowd in the opening ceremonies.
