5th Community Dinner held, June 9, 2012

The mild June weather continued long enough for us to hold our 5th Community Dinner, the one year anniversary of the event at the Port Royal Firehouse.  It has been sponsored all along by the Evening ECW with help from the ECM.

Stanley's new rig

Stanley Fields introduced his new "Porto Grill", charcoal and gas grill on a trailer hooked to his vehicle. He grilled some tender hot dogs and hamburgers. (What was part of his secret –  the Kirkland brand, private label from Costco). Others brought chips, beans and brownies to top it off.  Nancy helped with the bubbles which was a hit. Children enjoyed the playground immensely.

Community Dinner line

We had 25 people to dinner which included 8 children. Another 12 from St. Peter’s provided the meal. We noticed several people that had been to previous dinners and we received many ‘thank you’.  The building of community around food is one of the goals of the program. In the interest of community we distributed leaflets of the library’s summer program and the upcoming July 4th celebration in Port Royal.

The $50 gas card was won by Hector, ironically the last to arrive for the dinner.

Here is a slideshow of the event.
