Morning Prayer Fun Fact—

“Canticle” is one of those funny words that you tend to see only in Episcopalian, Lutheran or Catholic orders of service.  A canticle is simply a song or hymn of praise, and in our Morning Prayer service, a canticle follows each of the scripture readings as a response to that reading.   The use of canticles in Morning Prayer dates back to the 1549 Prayer Book.  Our canticles today come from Enriching our Worship 1, a collection supplemental liturgical materials prepared by The Standing Liturgical Commission in 1997.

Buy a Bible for a prisoner at Peumansend Creek Regional Jail.  For just $6, you can buy a copy of The Journey: A Bible for the Spiritually Curious.  The prisoners have very little access to Bibles except during Bible study, and those lucky enough to have their own read them in depth.  Your gift can make a real difference.  You can put a check in the offering plate and note on the memo line Bible for PCRJ.   If you have a Bible in a modern day translation that you aren’t using, you are welcome to donate it.  Thanks to all who have donated so far!

Welcome to St Peter’s!  Our hope is that you will find God’s love present with you in this place and that you will return here often to worship.

Today we will be bringing forward during the offering the food people have brought for the hungry of Caroline County.  Fred Pannell takes all the food you donate to the Caroline County food pantry, which is run by Social Services.

Happy Birthday!  Peter Reynolds (July 11th), Laura Carey (July 13th), B. J. Anderson (July 21st) and also Ken Pogue whose birthday was on July 1.

Do you have a favorite hymn?  If so, please list the hymn and your name on a slip of paper you will find in your pew today and place it in the offering plate.   We will be singing these favorite hymns throughout the summer.

Would you like to be a greeter/usher?   Please let Catherine know– (540) 809-7489.   Training will be provided!

TODAY! Sunday, July 15th , 4PM.  JoySong Chorale -Hymn Sing, Ice Cream, and Bluegrass at St. Peter’s.  We will hear the JoySong Chorale sing some anthems interspersed with rousing gospel tunes that we all get to sing.  Afterwards, we’ll indulge in some ice cream and enjoy some bluegrass out on the lawn.
