Happy Birthday – Justin Long (May 24th).
Our Celebrant today is The Rev. Amy Turner. Amy is a 2010 Virginia Theological Seminary graduate, and this spring she has completed a Master’s degree from the University of Mary Washington.
Today is Easter 7 as well as the Sunday closest to the Ascension. Forty days after the resurrection (May 17, 2012), Jesus and His disciples went to Mount Olivet, near Jerusalem. There, Jesus promised His followers that they would soon receive the Holy Spirit, and He instructed them to remain in Jerusalem until the Spirit had come. Then Jesus blessed them, and as He gave the blessing, He began to ascend into heaven. The account of Jesus’ ascension is found in Luke 24:50-51 and Acts 1:9-11.
Prayers on Preparation for Pentecost are available on the back pews of the church. Please use them in your daily devotions as you pray for the renewing power of the Holy Spirit in your own life.
Sunday, May 27th, is The Day of Pentecost, the day on which we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to all people and the beginning of the Church. We will have Morning Prayer at 9AM and Eucharist will be at 11AM. Please remember to wear red, the color of the Holy Spirit.
Take the “Bible Challenge” , reading the Bible in a year and sponsored by the Diocese. More details coming next Sunday on Pentecost.
Saturday, June 2– The ECW will participate in Bowling Green’s “Clean Sweep”. Pull those items that you no longer want but might be sought after by others. Place a price sticker on your items before you box them up. Please contact Eunice Key at 804-633-2165 if you have items for sale.

“What they asked me to do was to suggest in a great processional the idea of a never-ending line of great scholars, thinkers, and teachers… I put Christ at the top with the disciples to suggest that He is the great teacher.” – Millard Sheets
