St Asaph’s in Bowling Green will be hosting The Rev. Macon Walton, the Rector of Christ Church in Waverly, Virginia, at their 10:30AM service on Sunday, May 20th.  A short reception will follow the service.   The Rev. Walton served St Peter’s, St Asaph’s, and Vauters from 1958-1962.  All are welcome to attend.

Our Celebrant next Sunday will be The Rev. Amy Turner.  Catherine will be away at the Eastern Point Retreat Center in Massachusetts for a seven day silent prayer retreat with the Jesuits.

Today is Rogation Sunday.  “Rogation” comes from the Latin verb, “rogare,” which means “to ask.  Traditionally, on this Sunday preceding the Ascension of our Lord into heaven, we ask God’s blessings on the fields and crops.  Today’s Eucharistic prayer, from Enriching our Worship, provides a focus on God as Creator of the universe.

The Prayers of the People today reflect our focus on the generous nature of God, and our post communion prayer is from Enriching our Worship.

Prayers on Preparation for Pentecost are available on the back pews of the church.  Please use them in your daily devotions as you pray for the renewing power of the Holy Spirit in your own life.

Sunday, May 27th, is The Day of Pentecost, the day on which we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to all people and the beginning of the Church.  We will have Morning Prayer at 9AM and Eucharist will be at 11AM.    The 11AM service will be followed by a picnic. Please remember to wear red, the color of the Holy Spirit.

The SIXTH Sunday in Easter

May 13, 2012

11AM

“While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, "Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?"
– Acts 10:44-47
