From:   Cookie Davis; 20 August 2007

Father John will meet with the surgeon today to discuss his heart and what action is currently needed.  Please join me in this prayer for both Father John & Susanne as they face this difficult week:

This is another day, O Lord, I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready. Lord, for whatever it may be.  If I am to stand, help me to stand bravely.  If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly.  If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently.  And, if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly.  Make these more than words, and give me the ever-abiding presence of your Son and the strengthening of the Holy Spirit.

Be with John & Susanne this day as they face the challenges of life.  Give them your strength and shield them under your wings as we put our trust in Thee; through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen

Prayer is a source of comfort and strength.  A strength of prayer is that it establishes and maintains communication with God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ our one true mediator and path to salvation.

There are many types of prayers, just as life presents many differing challenges and gifts to be thankful for.  Prayer can and should be as much about Thanksgiving as petitions for intercessions and help.    But the best prayer of all is not fancy words; the best prayer is a humble and contrite heart in honest conversation with a loving Lord.

Father John Wall has put together a compellation of prayers for use in any number of situations, for use in building a foundation upon which to build your conversation with Jesus Christ and the Holy Trinity.

For Quietness, Patience, Trust, and Peace

HEAVENLY FATHER, who in your love knows the anxieties and fears of your children; whose Son Jesus Christ said to his disciples, “It is I, be not afraid.”, and to the tempest, “Peace, be still!”: Grant that I, your servant, may be strengthened to cast all my cares upon you, for you care for me.  Give me quietness and unshaken trust; guide me from on high to lift my feet into the way of peace.  Amen.

Almighty, Everliving God, Maker of all things, who corrects those whom you love, I beseech you to have mercy upon me, your servant, visit me and grant that I might take my illness patiently.  Heal me, in accordance with your gracious will. Whenever my soul does depart this life, may I, through my belief and acceptance of your Son as my Savior, do so without spot or blemish.  Amen.

Precious Lord, comfort me, your faithful servant. I beseech you, that I, now cast down and faint of heart, amid the present sorrows and difficulties of this world, may, by the power of your Holy Spirit,  be enabled to go on my way rejoicing, giving you thanks for your sustaining power: through Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savior.  Amen.

For the  Forgiveness of My Sins:

HAVE MERCY upon me, most merciful FATHER; in your compassion forgive me my sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold me by your Spirit that I may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Psalm 23:

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadetth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his Name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me;thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Amen.

For Trust in God

O GOD, the source of all health: So fill my heart with faith in your Love, that with calm expectancy I may make room for your power to possess me, and gracefully accept your healing; through Jesus Christ, my Lord.

Amen.

O LORD, I pray that you give me the help of your presence, that by your healing power, I may be perfectly restored to wholeness and health, to serve you without hindrance of mind, spirit, or body.

Amen.

HOLD THOU Me Up, O God, and give me all the strength that I shall need.  Let your holy angels be my helpers to keep and sustain me; and I pray thee to increase my trust and faith in the nearness of your love.

Amen.

ALMIGHTY GOD, who is the only source of health and healing, the spirit of calm, and author of peace in the universe; grant to me, your child, such a consciousness of your indwelling presence, as may give me utter confidence in you.  In all pain and weariness and anxiety, may I hide myself under your wings and behind your shield, that I, knowing your presence, might permit you to give me healing of mind, body, and spirit, through Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savior.

Amen.

For courage throughout the day

This is another day, O Lord, I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be.

Amen.

Aaron’s Blessing:

The Lord bless us and keep us; the Lord

make his face to shine upon us and be gracious

unto us; the Lord lift up the light of his

countenance upon us and give us peace… And

the blessing of God Almighty, +Father, Son, and

Holy Spirit be with us now and ever more.  Amen!

  For the Beginning of Healing:

Lord, your compassion is everlasting and

your mercies are new every day: I thank you

for giving relief from pain and have begun my

healing in mind, body, and spirit.  I thank my

physicians, nurses, family, and friends for their

efforts and kindnesses.   Continue, I pray, the

increase of my strength, that rejoicing in your

goodness, I may, with the aid of the  Holy Spirit,

so order my life that I do, think, and say those

things which please you, through Jesus Christ,

my Lord and my Savior.   Amen.

For strength and protection

O GOD, you know that I am set in the midst of many and great dangers, that in fear and frailty, I can not always stand upright: Grant me such strength, faith, and protection as to sustain me in all dangers and carry me through all temptations; through Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savior.

Amen.

ALMIGHTY LORD, who is the most strong tower to all those who put their trust in you; to whom all things in heaven, on earth, and in all of  the universe, do bow and obey: Be now and ever more my defense; and make me know that there is no other Name under heaven given, in Whom, and through Whom, I may receive health and salvation, which is only the Name of Jesus Christ, my Lord.

Amen.

For fortitude in suffering

LORD JESUS CHRIST, by thine own suffering, you hallowed earthly pain and gave us all the example of obedience to your Father’s will: Be near me in my time of weakness and pain; sustain me by your presence and grace, that my strength and courage may not fail; help me maintain a cheerful countenance; and heal me in accordance with your will.  Assist me to realize that what happens to me here in this life is of little account when I believe in you and you hold me in eternal life, my Lord and my God.

Amen.

For Doctors, Nurse, Technicians, and Attendants

SANCTIFY, O LORD, those whom you have called to the study and practice of the arts of medicine,  to the prevention of disease, to the healing of sickness and injury, and to the easing of pain and suffering.  Strengthen them with your life giving and self giving spirit, and bless the means being used for my recovery.  Fill my heart with confidence that though I be sometimes afraid, I yet put my trust in thee, through Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savior.

For sleep

HEAVENLY FATHER, who gives us sleep for the refreshing of mind, spirit, and body, grant me your gift of sleep, I pray; keep me in that perfect peace that you promise to those whose minds remain focused on you; inspire me with the sense of your presence, so in the hours of silence, I may enjoy the blessed assurance of your love; I pray in the Name of Jesus Christ my Savior.

Amen.
