Historic signs at Port Royal

From the Caroline Progress

"Jim Heimbach announced plans to unveil four new historic markers in the town at an event at 1 p.m. April 21.

"The markers are placed at the site of Fox Tavern, the intersection of King and Water Streets to recognize Port Royal Harbor, on Water Street between Market and Frederick Streets to recognize Native Americans who lived in the town before Europeans arrived, and at Memorial Baptist in recognition of Dorothy Ray.

The markers were made possible by a grant through the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the unveiling event will be sponsored by NSDAR, the Washington-Lewis chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Historic Port Royal."

The markers were produced by a company called Hopewell Manufacturing in Hagerstown, MD. Jim wrote the text, with some input from Liz, and provided the pictures of the chimneys and the Fox Tavern as well as the old Civil War photograph of the Port Royal Harbor.
