16 January 2013 ECW Minutes

The meeting was opened with the rattling of the Penny Jar and the reading of our Mission Statement.  This was followed by the Inspirational Reading taken from the ECW United in Prayer which Betty gave.

The reading of the November meeting were read and approved.

The Treasurer, Crystal Pannell, reported a balance of $2597.98.

President’s Report:

President, Marion Mahoney, reported:

*That she received a thank you note from the Moravian United Brethren Church in New York for our donation of $500.

*She also received the Jackson Field Home which is now sponsoring a trauma center.

Rector’s Report:

Rev. Catherine reported:

*How generous the congregation was in many ways this Christmas season.

*She reminded us of the Ash Wednesday Service on the 13th of February, and that probably there will be a pancake supper for Shrove Tuesday.

Altar Guild:

Crystal said there was nothing new to report.

Old Business:

Regarding possible field trips Catherine reported on Richmond Hill, a retreat run by the Episcopal Church.  They have a day retreat for the cost of $20 including lunch.  We voted to go.

There will be further discussion on another possible trip.

We also voted to participate in the Bowling Green’s “clean sweep” and the Harvest Fall Festival.

New Business:

Catherine spoke about St. Asaph’s fund raiser the “polar bear plunge”.  This is held at Lake Land D’Or.  We voted to contribute $100 (but no one volunteered to take the plunge).

Barbara Wisdom attended our meeting as a representative from the Evening ECW.  She gave us a list of the projects they have decided to do for 2013.  They include: 3 community dinners, an Easter egg hunt, helping with the annual Easter breakfast, a back to school cookout, back to school donations, Christmas donations, donation to Port Royal resident who is gravely ill (and needs homes for many cats), and visiting the nursing home this spring.

Cookie sent a reminder about the Quiet Day at Roslyn  to be held on the 21st of March.

The Congregational Meeting will be this Sunday the 20th.  Catherine reported that we will use a 2nd century liturgy which will include  an agape small meal.

A date for Ladies Night Out has not yet been decided and there was discussion when to have it and should the men provided entertainment as well as food.

We concluded with the Closing Prayer followed by refreshments provided by Betty.

Those attending were Rev. Catherine, Eunice Key, Barbara Wisdom, Crystal Pannell, Marion Mahoney, Nancy Long, and Betty Kunstmann.
