ECW Meeting March 21, 2012

ECW MINUTES

March 21, 2012 

Members present: Marion Mahoney (President) Eunice Key, Cookie Davis, Crystal Pannell. 

The meeting began at 2pm with the rattling of the penny jar by President Marion. 

After repeating the Mission Statement together, Crystal Pannell shared an inspirational reading – A Psalm for Women Who Serve The Lord.   

In the absence of our secretary, Betty Kunstmann, Marion was delighted to ask Eunice Key to volunteer to take the minutes and highlighted her special skills at doing them. 


Crystal reported that our treasury balance is now $4,322.59.   She noted that we had received $54.00 from TPR-Lyn’s Inn for the sale of 4 cookbooks.


President’s Report: Marion shared a story about a sick teen in KG that was battling cancer who had received over 3,000 pieces of mail – some from foreign countries.

                                    Mongolia has opened it doors to the Gospel by allowing Operation Christmas Child.

                                    Jackson Fields Home has shared statistics that 85% of their fundraising results go to the program and only 12% to administrative expenses. 

                                    Discussed Labyrinths – a place of reflection, popular addition to hospitals, churches, and how to best utilize them.  Aligany college now using one on campus for walking meditation, prayer, and many more uses.

                                    Marion also noted that July, August, September and November still need to fill slots for Altar Duty.

 

Rectors Report:       Catherine reported that the Jail Ministry was off to a great start and that sessions would be held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday’s.  Last weeks’ meeting has 18 men present fro 23 hour lock down.  Some of these were from other cities, countries, they were mostly young men.  She went alone  since other volunteers were not able to attend that night..

                                    Holy Week schedule was listed.

                                    God and the Mystery of Human Suffering will be the topic for 3 weeks during the adult Sunday school hour.

                                   

Altar Guild:  Crystal stated that Eunice did a beautiful job changing the fair linen (which was slightly too short for our altar) into 2 corporals. 

                                    Catherine said she talked to Sherry Alwine about ordering palms, Catherine will get with Sherry regarding the need to pay or if a donation.  It was decided that in future years our treasurer will order them.

 

Old Business:          Marion asked for commitments on who planned to go to the Kenmore trip/tour and possible lunch.  There seems to be more than 10 people interested.  The tour cost is $8.00 pp and lunch would be paid for by Marion (haha just kidding) paid for individually.  The tour would be at  10:30 and would last about 45-60 minutes ; there is also a small gift shop to go through.  This June 20 trip would be the last meeting of the year.

                                    A joint ECW meeting, with the daytime and nighttime ECW groups, would be held on April 29 at Lyn’s Inn.  She will check with Barbara regarding the date as someone mentioned that they thought it might be the 22nd.

                                    Lenten Quiet Day on March 29 – those planning to attend can meet at Cookie’s at 8:00.  There were about 6 people planning to go.

 

New Business:         Catherine talked about Labyrinth’s and their origin, showed pictures from numerous books.  She said that they are used to walk as a spiritual pilgrimage, reduce stress, etc.

                                    Eunice suggested that a tablecloth be made with St. Peter’s EC on it to be used at the clean sweep, Harvest Festival and other charity activities.  She was given permission to process with buying the supplies to make one.

                                    It was also discussed that a few ladies might take a trip to a fabric store to see if there was fabric that was suitable to be used as altar hangings because Eunice said that she could make them if we found good fabric – this would be a considerable cost savings over the normal source.

                                    Catherine asked if we should continue home made bread after lent.  It was decided to continue but to let people know that they can choose that or the wafer.

 

Refreshments were provided by Crystal and the next meeting was to the joint ECW luncheon.
