So, what’s a 8th BC prophet in Joshua have to do with us centuries later ? Plenty!
It is a book that came out of foreign intrigue which deals with basic religious issues- issues of idolatry, the problem of trying to follow the direction of God while our actions deviate from God’s teaching and the benefits of a righteous way of life.
Join us beginning Jan 9 for an exploration of this important latter prophet.
Isaiah is the most quoted of all the books of the Hebrew Bible outside of the Torah
(We have read before Christmas his foretelling of Emmanuel, “God with Us” which is one of the key themes of the book).
We will use a series known as the Pastor’s Bible Study which includes first 12 chapters of Isaiah. The first week we will explore what exactly is a prophet (It’s not all what you think!), the key themes and some of the history and then for the next 8 weeks move through what is known as First Isaiah. Reading is light – 10 to 20 verses at most – which will give us time for ample discussion. You can read ahead or wait until we read it on Sunday.
